London West, UK - Terracotta has featured in homes throughout history and has been used for flooring, walls, roofs, urns, pots and sculptures. The reddish brown earth colour gives warmth and instant character. It evokes a relaxing Mediterranean feel together with strength, durability and easy care. So no wonder it has been a popular on trend choice for 2017 either just as a colour or for the material itself.
The current trend also encourages the desire to seek out unglazed terracotta and to discover more interesting shapes. The April issue of Elle Decoration states that terracotta has long been used creatively from small ancient Greek figures to the somewhat larger Terracotta Army made for the Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huang. They even describe the trend as a terracotta takeover.
