Salvo Fair and AYG encourage younger exhibitors with competition

By Ruby Hazael

Oxfordshire, UK - Salvo and Antiques Young Guns are working together to encourage young people in the antiques trade by running a competition to win a pitch at Salvo Fair this summer. AYG aims to recognise, promote and help mentor young people in the trade, and to dispell the myth that the antiques industry is full of oldies.

Set up by Antiques News editor Gail McLeod, antiques expert and presenter Mark Hill and antiques dealer, writer and presenter George Johnson, AYG was launched three years ago. The recent collaboration with Salvo offers an opportunity for AYG members to meet, exhibit and trade with current Salvo Fair Exhibitors, of which the majority are in their forties and fifties or older, but whose trade and professional visitors range from twenties upwards.

Gail McLeod said 'We are thrilled to be working with Salvo Fair to offer our members the chance to win the fantastic prize of a free stand at this prestigious architectural salvage fair at their superb new venue at Fawley Hill near Henley, Oxfordshire - the estate of Lady Judith and Sir William McAlpine.'

Salvo Fair Organiser, Ruby Hazael, said 'It is so important for us to have young people coming into the antiques and salvage trade. We admire and respect the many young people following in their parents footsteps, and those tenacious, spirited people diving into the business through an innate passion for rescuing and loving old things. As a consequence we are collaborating with AYG to offer a Salvo Fair pitch as a competition prize. AYG members range from auctionneers and those dealing in decorative antiques, antique furniture, industrial, vintage and retro items and architectural and garden antiques, all of which we embrace at Salvo Fair.'

Lady Judith and Sir William McAlpine, supporters of Salvo and the Salvo Fair since the 1990s, have kindly agreed to host the original and world's largest architectural salvage, garden antiques and reclaimed building materials fair on the weekend of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June 2015 at their Fawley Hill estate, near Henley. The trade day will be held as usual on the preceding Friday 26th June.

The fourteenth Salvo Fair will bring dealers together from the UK, Europe and beyond, showcasing the best antique reclaimed and salvaged stock for professional and private buyers. Salvo Fair is a mecca for salvage and reclamation savvy interior designers, architects, builders, celebrities, billionaires, developers and dealers. Visitors come to browse through a treasure trove of antiques, salvage, reclaimed materials, vintage, mid-century, retro and upcycled goodies.

The deadline for entering the AYG Salvo Fair competition is 17th April 2015.
