Dist. of Col. (Washington DC), USA - In the State of the Union address, held on 12th February in Washington, President Obama spent a significant time talking about climate change and his proposals for making the US a more energy efficient country.

The speech is an annual report on the condition of the nation, where the president outlines his agenda and priorities for the coming year. Although Obama did not go into specifics, he proposed that America's homes and businesses should try to cut their energy bills by half, and that "the states with the best ideas to create jobs and lower energy bills by constructing more efficient buildings will receive federal support to help make it happen."

Although this is a long way off a proclamation for reuse, it is a step in the right direction.

Meanwhile, Reclaim and Remake 2013, will be held on April 11th - 13th in Washington DC. The event features sixty presentations and posters representing eleven countries, thirty three universities, and governmental and non-governmental organizations gathered to engage in a dialogue about the reclamation and reformation of built environment material resources through education, research and design.

Salvo's Thornton Kay will be attending Reclaim and Remake 2013 to promote the idea that a building cannot be called 'green' unless it uses at least the national average of reclaimed materials. He will also be helping Brad Guy, associate director, by moderating sessions and reviewing papers at the event.
