Gloucestershire, UK - Long standing architectural salvage dealer Cox's Yard of Moreton in Marsh specialises in Belfast sinks of all types and sizes, sourcing both reclaimed and new from all parts of the UK. In the good old days you'd buy in your sinks, clean them up, sell them and that would be that … let the customer worry about the fittings.
But today the buyer, or more likely the buyer's builder, wants a total package of sink, taps and wastes. Cox's has developed a range of fittings including bottle traps, wastes, bib taps and all the nitty gritty elbows, back plates and extensions required to deliver such a package.
Initially we used reclaimed fittings but the demand was such and the supply so limited, especially in polished brass, that we now have to source decent quality fittings from UK manufacturers, take them to bits, strip, repolish and reassemble them. The range now covers over 30 different items in ½ inch and ¾ inch BSP ranging from wall plate elbows to BS1010 screw down bib tap to sophisticated ceramic disc bridge mixers.
Sourcing from UK manufacturers is tricky with very few true makers left. Many import in component form from China for assembly over here. You never know what the metal is until you strip the chrome off. We've seen so called brass parts just dissolve as the component turns out to be Mazak* or some similar ersatz metal. We've had to have some parts cast for us here in the Black Country.
In addition to Belfast sink fittings, Cox's also does polished brass basin and bath wastes and traps and will undertake restoration of customer's taps if feasible.
Did you know? A true Belfast sink always has a weir type overflow at one end whilst a London sink has none. Therefore a Belfast sink needs a slotted waste and a London sink a solid one.
Cox's Yard will be exhibiting at the upcoming Salvo Fair in Henley on Thames from 17-19 June.
