The Ashden Awards for sustainable energy

By Colleen gowlett

London East, UK - Are you working in a business, charity, local authority, school or other public sector organisation which is tackling climate change? Are you encouraging the use of sustainable energy, changing the way people use energy or teaching the next generation to save energy and care for the environment? Do you want to put your local sustainable energy solution in the global spotlight and inspire others?

The Ashden Awards bring to light inspiring sustainable energy solutions in the UK and developing world and help ensure that they are spread more widely. From an entrepreneur rolling out solar power across rural India to a school adopting clean energy and green learning in England, our winners are passionate about bringing change to their communities and the planet.

At the heart of the Ashden Awards is a rigorous judging process culminating in a prestigious ceremony in London where prizes are presented to winners from all corners of the globe to help further their work.

Applications must be for work that has been running for at least a year, that is technically excellent and is improving the lives of local people. It's a tall order but one that many UK winners have already met. In addition to individual prizes of up to £10,000, with an overall UK Gold Award of £20,000, we offer our winners a package of benefits and support including a broadcast-quality short film about their work and an opportunity to have their voice heard by policy-makers.

Applications for the 2011 Awards are open from July 2010 with a closing date of 26 October 2010 for the UK awards.
