West Sussex, UK - A set of twelve 4ft high carved Bath stone lidded urn finials in the Edwardian baroque style and dated to the early 20th century were top lot at the Summers Place auction last week at Billingshurst. They realised 25,000 inc premiums in the live sale against a 20k-40k estimate.

Second highest lot was a painted composite of Gromit which sold for 18,000 inc premiums and vat in the sealed bid auction, against an estimate of 4,000 - 6,000, with a brass plaque inscribed Gromit Unleashed Glamit by M.A.C. registered Wallis and Gromit's grand appeal charity no.1043603 Tim Aardman Wallis and Gromit Ltd 2014 all rights reserved 65ins high by 49ins long.

There was a long catalogue entry about this Gromit as follows: In July 2014, 70 Gromit sculptures came together for the first time outside the UK to create an exhibition at the Elements Mall in Hong Kong. ~The Greatest Dog Show on Earth~ in Hong Kong featured a display of 5ft and 3ft high decorated Gromit sculptures on an ornate, two-tier carousel band with a 4 metre high Gromit as the centrepiece. The sculptures were individualised by an array of artists, illustrators, fashion designers and musicians, including Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Gromit, Merlin Crossingham, Creative Director of Wallace & Gromit and fellow Aardman designers Gavin Strange and Richard Webber; along with world-renowned milliner Philip Treacy, whose hats are worn by members of the Royal family and famous Hong Kong celebrities. At the end of the exhibition, the giant sculptures were auctioned to raise funds for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity, and children's art programmes in hospitals across Hong Kong. Originally, Gromit Unleashed all began with a major public arts trail in the summer of 2013, which saw 80 giant sculptures of award-winning Aardman Animations character Gromit decorate Bristol's streets. Each sculpture was individually decorated by famous names from the worlds of animation, art, fashion, film and music - from Cath Kidston to Sir Peter Blake; Joanna Lumley to Gerald Scarfe. After making Bristol their home for ten weeks, the Gromits went to auction in October 2013, raising over 2.3m for Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity. Since then, Gromit Unleashed has continued to raise funds, going global with a project in Hong Kong in 2014, which is where this and the following lot were originally sold. M.A.C Cosmetics, the professional makeup company and makeup artist brand M.A.C is sold in over 70 countries around the world. One of the most influential and popular forces in contemporary cosmetics, M.A.C dedicates to develop a collection of colours, products and tools that support the needs of professional makeup artists and general consumers. M.A.C artists are the voice, spirit and living embodiment of M.A.C products and culture. M.A.C is for all ages, all races, all sexes. Attitudinally hip, artfully irreverent, dedicated fully to the art of self-decoration and the realization of the individual, the M.A.C attitude is best expressed by its artists, seen and felt in its stores.

Third highest lot was an entranceway with central 7ft high wrought iron driveway gates, with a 14ft opening, 7ft high cast iron gateposts, and originally with a pair of wicket gates, or pedestrian gates, to each side of which there was only one in this sale. Estimated at 8k - 10k the lot sold for 14,375 sealed bid.

Fourth lot was a pair of cast iron pier lamps topped by copper lanterns, shy of 10ft tall, dated to 2nd half of the 19th century with a diamond registration mark which sold for 10,012 sealed bid.
