Significant signs cut the mustard at Gaze bygones sale

By Thornton Kay

Kent, UK - Top lot at Gaze's bygones sale last Saturday was a Victorian poster advertising local firm Colman's Mustard, Manufacturers to the Queen and Purveyors to HRH The Prince of Wales which was knocked down for 500. Second highest lot was another sign for Nectar Tea in a teacup and saucer shaped enamel, which sold for 340. A Castrol sign which sold for 220.

A trade bike with basket carrier sold for 170, a pair of old but somehow modern-looking Norfolk skates 150, a miniature gothic cast iron fireplace 48, a pair of George VI red fire buckets 120, and a fine-looking scumbled pine two drawer saddle horse fetched 320.

A total of 544 lots sold in this 624 lot sale, a very respectable 87% sold by lot. Next sale of trade interest at Gaze's is the architectural salvage and statuary sale on Saturday 20th February. Full results of the bygones sale can be seen on Gaze's website.
