Gloucestershire, UK - Recently we have been asked to find four replacement light fittings for a Victorian cast iron drinking fountain and clock tower originally cast by George Smith & Co., Sun Foundry, Glasgow and since then exported and rebuild on the Caribbean island of St Kitts. A leading local business man is sponsoring the restoration of the tower which is in the square of Basseterre and is known as The Berkeley Memorial.
The fountain was similar to one erected in Glasgow and known as the Gorbals Cross Drinking Fountain and Clock Tower. This was demolished in the 1930's making the Basseterre a significant survivor. George Smith and Co. (1858-1899) rivalled Macfarlane's for their range of street furniture.
It is in good order but somewhere along the way, the cast globe lamp cages and crown finials have been replaced with something more utilitarian. We are looking for suitable replacements, ideally reclaimed but realistically more likely to be new. Can anyone help?
