Oxfordshire, UK - The White Lace blog gives regular tips on how to make your home more beautiful. Blogger Anne had the classic girly dream of a handsome prince and a family and a house with a picket fence. She has achieved the first two and is still enjoying the thrill of creating her dream home. Home treasures are sourced from thrift and salvage stores. Anne discovered she had a soft spot for past life 'chippy' pieces so salvage style has become her new love. Below are her tips for decorating with salvage.

The first tip is to consider will it fit so height and balance are key. A small piece may get lost and if it is too big it may overpower unless you want to make a stand out statement. Always shop with your room measurements in mind.

Secondly consider pieces with versatility for example an old fireplace mantel makes an eye catching feature n any room. Versatile pieces such as old doors, corbels and urns make great decoration throughout the home and can be moved around to suit as room decor changes over time.

Thirdly create interest by using pieces in a different way and in unexpected places. Anne used salvaged corbels to decorate the often unused space on top of kitchen cabinets and a garden gate as wall art.

So be brave, take risks and really enjoy sourcing your own unique pieces. And for those still searching for their own prince you may need a carriage to take you to the ball - see Molly and Maud, exhibiting at Salvo 2017.
