London North West, UK - Top London salvageur, Retrouvius, has engaged two designers, Fabien Cappello and Daniel Heath, to create an exhibition exploring the reuse philosophy of Retrouvius by interpreting three of their current salvaged materials - reclaimed stone floor, reclaimed Meranti woodblock and oak shingles. 'Off the Floor' will be held at Retrouvius, 2a Ravensworth Road, Kensal Green, London NW10 5NR
Out of Derbyshire fossil stone, reclaimed from Heathrow Airport Terminal 2, Capello will create a stone throne inspired by millions of travellers' hellos and goodbyes. Thin oak shingles will be rejoined and pegged to form a wall of openings. Delicate Meranti parquet from the 1950s is coming off the floor and being transformed to make extruded desks and tables. Fabien Capello has been awarded British council funded projects to Lisbon and the Korean Republic and a residency programme in Venice.
Daniel Heath, a textile designer who has worked with Retrouvius on several of highend residential projects, will be let loose to apply his circus big top collection onto a palette of wood, rubber and glass.
Images of the work in progress will be posted on Retrouvius' website as they unfold.
Retrouvius has also been commissioned to design the Exhibition Road entrance and hub for the London Design Festival (18 - 26 September) at the V&A this year.
