Norfolk, UK - Last Saturday's architectural salvage sale at Gaze's of Diss had its usual variety of materials ranging from stone, compo and terracotta to oak, pine and mahogany but the high notes this time were provided by the metal copper with the two highest lots at the sale and a few other notables.

Top of the bill were two verdigris-coated copper architectural pedimented Edwardian(or later?) neoclassical mansard roof dormer window surrounds taken from a department store in Regent Street, London estimated at 800-1,200 which sold for 1,400 and 800 (plus 15% buyer's premium).

Among several copper lamps and lanterns a Victorian copper lampost lantern, Lutyens-influence copper lantern top and a lamp bracket lot sold for 130. A copper lantern on scrolled wall bracket sold for 380. A riveted copper copper 30ins diameter sold for 800. A copper-cased Negretti & Zambra (fl 1850-1980), London, zero-setting tilting bucket rain gauge sold for 190.

Second-highest lot was a new? polished chrome and copper roll top double raised end bateau bath which sold for 1100.

There were 747 of 963 lots sold, 77% sold by lot. Other notable lots included a pallet containing 36 terracotta coping bricks and extras, estimated at 80 which sold for 420. A pair of badly-weathered stone urn finials from Holkham (Hall?) sold for a bottom estimate 170. A 19thC prison door in the paint reputedly taken from Old Norwich Prison sold 500.
