Stopping the decline in salvage – a webcast on 3rd February

THORNTON Kay of Salvo and Jonathan Essex of BioRegional, who have recently published a paper for government policy-makers called 'Pushing Reuse', will be holding a live webcast on 3rd February at 3pm - 3.45pm with a talk followed by an internet audience Q&A session.

They aim to explain why there has been a decline in some areas in the amount of material reclaimed from demolition and refurbishment (noted as a result of the two BigREc Surveys in 1998 and 2007), citing case studies on carbon savings of building material reuse, and recommending government actions and policy changes.

BOOKINGS and enquiries for Salvo Fair 2010 are steadily mounting. Snowy conditions have not hindered the interest showing for the trade's big summer jamboree.

Van de Wouwer Decoration in Belgium have booked a big pitch again. Jeroen has got his hands on a load of industrial looking, metal boxes and some enamel and glass lampshades from old factories, a few old cigarette vending machines, and a WWII suitcase saved from an old farm full of goodies from the era. Amongst others Tina Pasco, Cox's Yard, Architectural Forum and V & V Reclamation have also booked.

Snobs Knobs & Posh Knockers comment on the trade

BARRY Lawson from Snobs Knobs & Posh Knockers acknowledges the challenges that the trade face. Mr Lawson said, "We were very sad to hear the news about Walcot Reclamation. They have been part of the trade for as long as I can remember and we go back to 1983. We understand the chill that is blowing through the trade in more ways than one after last weeks photograph of Cox's yard. Still Ann and I have decamped to Spain and left the girls to keep an eye on things. After 7 days of rain we finally have some sunshine–could this really be the start of global warming? We are off to the local market in couple of days to see if we can pick up any antique door knockers. When all is said and done you have to keep your hand in. Another gin & tonic anyone!"
